Getting to RBWH by bus and train

Public transport to Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital in Herston: RBWH bus station, rail connections, entrances and appointment planning.

Prepared for Brisbane DailyChecked

Desk-researched from the official sources below. Routes, access and timetables should be checked for your travel date; this is an independent planning guide, not a hospital or Translink service.

Start with RBWH bus station

Metro North lists a bus station beside Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital. Search for RBWH in the journey planner and confirm the selected stop and final walking leg. Check your destination is RBWH, rather than another facility in the wider Herston precinct.

Compare rail with a bus connection

The hospital’s transport page identifies Fortitude Valley and Bowen Hills rail approaches, with a walk to the campus. Compare that walk with a connection to RBWH bus station, particularly if you have limited mobility, luggage or an early appointment. Use current station names and live routes from Translink.

Find your building before travelling

Use the hospital’s official maps and directions to identify the building and entrance on your appointment letter. A campus arrival is only the first step: check whether your clinic has its own check-in location. Do not follow an emergency entrance merely because it is prominent on a map.

Plan to the appointment, not just the campus

Set the journey planner to arrive before your appointment. Add your own buffer for the walk, finding reception and check-in. Save the building name, floor and clinic from your letter. Timetables do not include the time you may need inside a large hospital.

Check a return trip before you leave

Use the expected finish time as a starting point, then compare a later service in case the appointment runs over. Check official disruptions. If a delay means you may be late, contact your clinic using the number on your appointment letter.

Accessibility and a simple backup

Ask the hospital about the entrance nearest your clinic and any assistance you need before travelling. Compare the final walking section as well as the bus or train. Save a campus map and appointment details so you can ask staff for help if your phone battery runs low. Our phone battery guide can help you prepare.
