Free events and Brisbane ghost tours

A weekly or fortnightly planning routine, with paid ghost tours clearly separated from free activities.

Choose a focused guide

For dated free listings and low-cost planning, open Free events in Brisbane. For a booked evening outing, open Brisbane ghost tours. This page remains a starting point for both.

Your next 7–14 days

Use our Events page for current council listings. Check the price, booking requirement, age range, location and cancellation notice for each session. A recurring program does not guarantee a session every week at the same venue. Review the list each week or fortnight rather than relying on old dates.

Weekly ideas: parkrun and community activities

Council describes parkrun as a free Saturday-morning 5 km community event for walking, jogging, running, volunteering or spectating. Confirm your local event’s start time, registration and cancellation notices. Look through the council’s Active Parks and library listings for other free sessions that suit your age and ability.

Music and city discovery

Bands in Parks offers free concerts around Brisbane; dates and venues vary, so choose a confirmed listing. Brisbane Greeters offers free guided local walks with booking arrangements. Neither should be treated as an unbooked drop-in at a fixed time.

Ghost tour · paid, booking required

Haunted Brisbane CBD is a guided evening storytelling walk offered by Ghost Tours Australia. Its operator describes a roughly two-hour outdoor experience, not entry into buildings. Check the current calendar, price, age rules, meeting point, access requirements and weather policy before paying. Cemetery tours are separate products; choose the exact tour you intend to join.

A sensible outing plan

For a free day, combine a confirmed concert or guided walk with a park visit and bring your own picnic. For a ghost-tour evening, book first and plan the last bus or train home. Food, transport and optional extras may still cost money even when the activity is free.

Choose one anchor event, then build around it

Start with a confirmed session you actually want to attend. Note its start and finish time, booking conditions and suburb. Add one nearby park or gallery rather than crossing Brisbane several times. Our free one-day itinerary is a useful alternative when event dates do not suit.

What “free” should mean

Check the full listing, not just a search result. General admission, a workshop and a special exhibition can have different prices. A free ticket may still need booking; materials, meals, parking and transport may be extra. The live list above filters the council feed for free listings, but the organiser’s page is the final check.

A weekly planning checklist

For a 7-day or 14-day look ahead, use this order.

  1. Refresh the free listings above or open Brisbane Events.
  2. Check date, availability, age range and access on the organiser’s page.
  3. Book if needed and save the confirmation in your calendar.
  4. Check the forecast and your journey again on the day.

Ghost stories and historical visits are different outings

The CBD ghost tour is a paid storytelling walk; it does not promise access to buildings. For daytime interiors and venue conditions, use our heritage buildings guide. Check the ghost-tour operator’s current age, mobility and cancellation conditions before paying.

A fortnight of options without overbooking

Pick two or three activities from the next 14 days, then keep one as a backup rather than booking every slot. Read the organiser’s page for the exact session and note any cancellation condition. Add only confirmed bookings to your calendar. If the programme does not suit your dates, use the free one-day itinerary instead of relying on an old recurring-event listing.

Questions before you go

Does free mean I can arrive without booking?

Not necessarily. A free session may have a capacity limit, age requirement or reserved ticket. Read the specific event listing before travelling.

Are the ghost tours part of the free events?

No. They are a separately labelled paid option. Check the operator’s current price and conditions. For daytime building visits, use the heritage guide.
